The Commission on Sustainable Development is a unique UN forum that brings together government officials and representatives from a broad spectrum of civil society to discuss and recommend solutions that promote sustainable development. The 14th session of the Commission (dubbed CSD14) was held at UN Headquarters in New York from 1 to 12 May, 2006.
In line with its objective of facilitating civil society engagement with UN agencies, the Environment Liaison Centre International (ELCI) worked with the Northern Alliance for Sustainability (ANPED), Third World Network (TWN) and other members of the Sustainable Development Issues Network (SDIN) to produce Taking Issue; a daily publication distributed to NGO and government delegations at the summit. Taking Issue is one of the main vehicles that SDIN uses to improve communications among NGOs engaging in CSD events. In 2005, the network produced CSD for Beginners to introduce participants to the main agents, themes and protocols of the Commission.
SDIN daily briefs on CSD14 and ten editions of Taking Issue are available at http://www.sdissues.net/sdin/
