Welcome to the Local Governance Strengthening folder of the Impact Alliance Resource Center. Democratic local governance is an integral part of local development and a precondition for poverty reduction strategies. However, many rural municipalities have neither the human resources, nor the basic tools, required for public administration.

These resources put in context the role of capacity building in the local governance movement, including initiatives that target community governance, political management, leadership and management of change, performance management and improvement, anticorruption and transparency, civil society strengthening, participatory strategic planning, budgeting and financial planning, information services, and legislative strengthening.
