Executive Summary CisD Knowledge Fair 2010
The ‘Capacity is Development’ Knowledge Fair collected experiences on policies, investments and programs that have proven successful in driving human and institutional capacity development in diverse settings around the world. The United Nations Development Programme – Capacity Building Group organized this knowledge fair in partnership with the
Learning Network on Capacity Development (LenCD) and the Impact Alliance. Official entries were received from all over the world via the fair, which opened on 4 January, 2010 and officially closed on 5 February, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. EDT.
Entries were accepted in the form of two‐page case stories, videos or images that demonstrated the impact of capacity development. To be considered eligible for the Fair, all contributions needed to “clearly reflect an emphasis on capacity development—policies that promote it, investments that financed it or programmatic approaches that developed it.”
The UNDP defines capacity development as the process through which individuals, organizations and societies obtain, strengthen and maintain the capabilities to set and achieve their own development objectives over time. In the context of the CisD Knowledge Fair, special
interest was given to gathering stories (in English, French and Spanish) from three priority focal areas:
Sub‐National Capacity Development: Local Solutions, National Strengths
Capacity Challenges in Post-conflict and Transitional Situations
Fostering the Rise and Resilience of Middle‐Income Countries Website (URL): http://www.capacityisdevelopment.org/knowledgefair Author(s): The Impact Alliance
