The Knowledge Management Impact Challenge

The KM Impact Challenge, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development, is a collaborative learning initiative bringing together practitioners to share experiences and challenges assessing knowledge management. A call for case stories documented an initial collection of experiences. These case stories and a library of relevant resources can be found at the Challenge website.

Top case story authors and other KM and M&E practitioners met in Washington, DC in May, 2011 for the KM Impact Challenge unConference. Part of the event was broadcast via webinar so some of the proceedings from the unConference, along with meeting notes and other KM Impact Challenge events can be reviewed online. Visit the KM Impact Challenge website.

The South-South Opportunity Case Story Challenge

This initiative documented south-south cooperation case stories featuring technical cooperation and capacity development among developing countries in the context of aid effectiveness. This process gathered over 100 cases from the Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America Regions.
The Impact Alliance partnered with the Task Team on South-South Cooperation, a Southern-led platform hosted at the OECD-DAC, and provided technical support for the South-South Opportunity Case Stories and the High Level Event on South-South Cooperation and Capacity Development websites, which it continues to host. Visit The South-South Opportunity Case Stories website.

Capacity is Development Knowledge Fair

The Capacity is Development Knowledge Fair collected more than 150 experiences on policies, investments and programs in the form of a case story, video, or image, that have proven successful in driving human and institutional capacity development in diverse settings around the world.
The Impact Alliance partnered together with the United Nations Development Programme and LenCD to administrate the knowledge fair process by establishing and hosting its website, developing all related knowledge fair communications, managing and processing entries and knowledge fair finalists—whom were awarded an expense paid trip to attend the Capacity is Development Global Conference in Marrakech, Morocco. The Regional Learning Program for Good Governance in Latin America - PAR

PAR was started in September 2006 as a regional program supporting Knowledge Management and Learning among Sub-National Governments to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and to Poverty Reduction in Latin America. The program connects practitioners and policy makers to develop expertise for improved local impact in the region.
PAR is a joint initiative between the Impact Alliance initiative and the British Department for International Development (DFID) that worked through a consortium of Impact Alliance partners that included Pact, the National Working Group for Participation (GNTP-Bolivia), the Brazilian Institute for Municipal Administration (IBAM) and SNV. During the program's life, it operated projects and organized events in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Peru.  Visit the PAR's website.

Local Governance Barometer (LGB)

The LGB emerged from a three-day gathering in Pretoria, South Africa in 2005, convened by the Impact Alliance as a Local Governance Laboratory. The LGB is a framework for assessing the quality of  local governance enabling a participatory review of local governance conditions, and allowing the comparison of results from one locality to another. To date, the LGB has been applied in over 8 countries on two continents.
Led by the joint efforts and investments of three Impact Alliance partners, Pact, SNV and Idasa, the LGB serves as a compelling example of the critical linkage between knowledge development and the capacity of the Impact Alliance to pool partner resources and interests to accelerate the deployment of an innovative approach—scaling-up impact.  Visit LGB's website
