Good Governance and Social Accountability

Welcome to the Good Governance folder of the Impact Alliance Resource Center. Good governance describes how public institutions conduct affairs and manage public resources in order to guarantee the realization of human rights for citizens. Because this term encapsulates various concepts related to governance, most governments or aid organizations will adapt the meaning of “good governance” to best fit their programmatic agenda. As such, challenges related to good governance affect a wide assortment of sectors involved in development work.
