Do you play an instrument or have you heard a group of talented musicians get together to produce sensational music when they had never played together before? This improvisation session is called a JAM. And this spontaneous, collective creation is what we sought to achieve in the Latin American Regional JAM.

Between Tuesday, December 11th and Wednesday, December 12th the Regional Learning Program (PAR) generated a dynamic conversation through the Latin American JAM: Instruments and Tools for the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).  This PAR initiative created a space that promoted exchange of experiences through a virtual portal. The JAM involved the participants from 10 different countries: Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, El Salvador, the United States of America, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.

The JAM methodology was designed by the international company, IBM, as a tool to promote a virtual debate that is focused, involves asynchronous participation, and is held for a limited time.  It focuses on the exchange of ideas based upon experience, knowledge and lessons learned.

The Latin American Regional JAM had more than 40 participants who shared lessons learned, recurrent challenges, and experiences from a variety of current and past initiatives and projects related to governance and adaptation of the MDGs to the local level in Latin America. Experiences were presented from Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Brazil.
